Solo Nurse On Duty

Just last week, I got my chance to work alone as the nurse on duty for the afternoon shift. My partners didn't report on duty and so I was left alone. Good thing I had two trainees on duty and one OR technician plus 2 students for their completion. We had one case in our shift. I was concerned that may be anytime I would receive a STAT (emergency) cases. This I cannot reject since it's an emergency. I was praying hard and indeed God hears our prayers.

I managed to survive my shift and I was grateful I did. Thank God!

Glaring Sunlight

Having surgical procedures in room suite 1 during afternoon makes it difficulty for the surgical team to focus on the operation due to glaring sunlight from the window. It should have been tinted but sad to say it's tint isn't enough to conceal the glares. I hope they'll plan of havign it tinted or if temporary, they used blinds. Just to keep the glares for the meantime.

Whining About Her Hair

It was funny this morning as I recalled how my friend greeted me inside the OR complex. She was starting to whine about her. She was planning to have a quick trim but the person who did her hair cut more than an inch of her hair and told her that short hair is appropriate for summer. She was so upset and swore never to go back to that salon. Can't help but laugh at her mishap and told her that she was just given a lame excuse to justify for that mistake.

Cardio As A Fat Burner

Is cardio a best fat burner for men? A guy friend of mine starts working out and is now getting addicted to it. Not only does he claims he wanted to lose fat but mainly he wants to buffed up. This is the first time I hear this passion from a gay. Though, it's good he has this nice plan in his lifestyle. He even encouraged me to do cardio to help me lose weight since he did lose weight from doing it. I wanted to go back to the gym too but I just have a conflict of time. And that's so sad.

Another Lonesome Day

It would be another lonesome day for me tomorrow, as I remember it as supposedly special. Days prior, I am starting to feel sad and longing. I know I shouldn't feel this way. I know he's happy of where he is now and with whom he is connected to. But I can't just fight the feeling of missing him. Especially now that I have asked him to stop our communication. Things are just too complicated and chaotic. I don't feel like I belong to this situation. I felt like withdrawing and that's what I'm doing. I just hope things will be better soon.

Antioxidant Supplements

I was overjoyed when I saw a bottle of Kirkland Vitamin E in the kitchen. My father bought it as an alternative to his Myra E. It's more cheaper than buying the latter. I love vitamin E! It may not be the best multivitamin since it's not a multivitamin. But I love it's antioxidant properties. Especially now that I am feeling more stressful. I need to take antioxidant supplements. There are times that I used it as a topical agent. It's kinda slimy and does have a smell but your skin feels smoother the next day.

On to Oatmeal Diet

Just a few days ago, I bought oatmeals and raisins. I've decided to go on an oatmeal diet on my dinner time. Been so conscious lately with my bulging tummy and I guess I have to decrease the amount of rice I'm taking in. Though there are already fda approved diet pills in the market today. I still go for the natural method first.

The oatmeal diet wasn't bad after all. I can even tolerate it and it's heavy too. But since it's fiber, it's no worries for me. I think it's a good alternative for my dinner meal since it's in dinner time that I mostly eat a lot.

2 ToXic Shifts In A Row

My body aches and so does my head. For 2 days in a row, my duty shift were toxic. Had to work in PACU since our PACU nurse's on leave. My patients were toxic and I have to attend to their needs ASAP.

Yesterday, got a STAT completion curettage case and my patient was toxic since it manifested chilling and bleeding. Even went to hypoglycemic again and have to eat my dinner asap. I hope my shift tonight will be a relax time for me. Let me get a rest yo!

Unofficial Overtime

It was a local holiday today and the operating room was quiet. There were no surgeries scheduled for today and so we were waiting for our shift to end by chit chatting. Time for bonding again. I should have gone on duty for 8 hours shift and went an unofficial overtime to wait for my other colleagues.

It's a local holiday, but surprisingly my drinking buddies were not in the mood to go out tonight. Even I, wasn't in the mood either. The city is crowded in celebration of our city's foundation day. Who would want to go to bars were people all flocked in there right? Our drinking careers went to a halt for this week. Hopefully, sometime soon we could go out again. Perhaps next week, I'm starting to miss their company. Hehe.

Post Grad Movie

Have you seen this movie? Just watched it a few days back. It stars Alexis Bledel of Gilmore Girls. It's another love story movie. It's nice. The primary reason I watched this is because of Alexis. I liked her dresses during her job interviews especially the ones above which looked like some bow ties. I really find her charming and innocent looking. Her blue eyes can are an eye catcher too.

Swapping Shift

Supposedly, I should go on duty from 10am to 6pm. But due to a number of minimal invasive surgeries scheduled for this day, my shift changed to morning shift, giving way to the other staff to take my shift so he could assist the MIS surgeries for the afternoon cases.

I was assigned on the first case. The operation lasts almost 5 hours since two procedures were done. I was the circulating nurse. At first, I fear doing the perineal preparation to the patient since I haven't done that procedure yet and am not even sure on how to do it. Thank God, I managed to do the preparation as it is. Good thing I observed how it was done from our Dilatation and Curettage cases.

That was a goal met for me and was happy with that achievement. Yihee!

Gadget Updates

Is scanner considered to be a gadget? Anyways, I saw one new USB and scanner in the mall recently, it was ls2208. It was neat and nice. Very decent to looked at and very reliable. I wonder if the supermarkets uses it already. Because I think they should.

On another note, I'm so relieved to have my day off today. Just came from a night duty shift and wishing that I can make up for my lack of sleep. My eye bags are starting to get dark.

Assisting An Open Thoracotomy

It was my first time and I received the open thoracotomy case as the instrument nurse. It was scary at first since, I am not familiar with the instruments used. And I was concern of the surgeon's mood. Fortunately, he was okay though there some time that he gets mad. But it was okay, it was tolerable. But the case was so toxic, the operation lasts for almost 8 hours if I'm not mistaken and I assisted for like 6-7 hours, I think. Wasn't able to eat my dinner and it was tiring and starving. We all were. Especially the surgeons.

Though the good side is that, I was able to assist no matter how toxic it was.

Hooked To Music

Recently, I've been sound tripping with various kinds of music. I learn to appreciate some genres from different artists. I'm hooked with the rhythm and tried looking up the lyrics. There I understood the message of the song and there are some lyrics that are striking that is why pasted it in my facebook shoutout. With the songs I liked, I downloaded it and saved it in my mobile phone. Good thing my phone's have a MP3 players so I could listen to them anytime I want.

Death Toll In Chile

Deaths in Chile earthquake is increasing. The last time I note, it was around 300 already. That was a lot already. Is this a bad omen? I noticed that several earthquakes has been hitting globally and has caused a lot of mortalities. That's a huge funeral costs to consider, I think.

Just a day before the earthquake in Chile, we experienced an earthquake in our place. It was reported to be a 5.5 magnitude quake. And it was quite long. At that time, I was on the 4th floor of a building doing some work outs. We all paused from what we were doing and waited if it the earthquake would still commence and started eyeing on the fire exit. Fortunately, it stopped and we all resumed our work out.

Days before the said quake, our institution has initiated an earthquake drill. It was a good preparation though there are some people who didn't took the drill seriously.
